8count

Magazine Publication | Fall 2022

Task: Create a wordmark that applies typographic theories and principles by assessing a magazine design system and exploring typography through identity development. I wanted to create a wordmark for a magazine that communicates meaning and begins to. build a visual language.

Concept: 8Count is a dance and lifestyle magazine that brings awareness to the battles that dancers face with body image.

Visual Language

This publication was created to visually express the idea of movement within dancers throughout the typography and imagery utilized within each spread.

Blurring and Motion Effects

Dancers in action has a blurred, multi-exposure effect, suggesting movement and the dynamic nature of dance. This visual technique mimics the fluidity and continuous motion typical in ballet movements.

Typography Manipulation

Type incorporates bold and manipulated blurred text stretching in different directions, reflecting slow movements and tension between physical and internal struggles dancers may face with body image and health.

Repetition of Figures

Repeated images of dancers conveys the synchronized, repetitive movements often found in ballet routines. This repetition emphasizes the collective and rhythmic nature of dance performances.
